Dr. Drina Fried

Backed By Research

I, Dr. Drina, hereby NOW assert that these techniques were backed by research completed while studying at the University of the Pacific (UOP) in the form of Dr. Drina’s DISSERTATION/STUDY with 4th-6th grade students. About 35 randomly chosen students were in each of two groups.

Research group 1 were systematically encouraged to release their anger, grief, embarrassments and frustrations in the natural way as  described in the below 68th page:

Control group #2 - attended a study hall type room with Dr. Fried, but there was little to no interaction at all; and no interaction at all about emotions or emotional release.
Both groups were examined using outside examiners,  examiners who did not know who belonged to which group, both before and then after the half year-long study during 1981.

Aside from a draw-a-person test,  a Yes/No questionnaire was used to determine their level of life satisfaction.

4 examples of this about 40 item questionnaire: (This is not verbatim because since this study was done in 1983, and I have moved several times, downsized,  and lost much of my materials.  I could not find the actual questionnaire that I used for each of those in the study and each of the students I examined in my psychological evaluations of referred students between from 1980-2006.)  Therefore, these quotes are  from "Memory”
"I’m usually happy;"
"I like most everyone I know;"
"My parents and I get along;"
"Schoolwork is mostly easy for me"

Results of the experiment indicated greater life satisfaction in the research group, than in the control group.  The dissertation suggested further studies would be helpful, and that the students anecdotally also enjoyed being allowed to discharge their negative emotions, rather than hold the peptides of negative emotions inside their bodies.

Dr. Drina’s current last comment: I would like to add that during my 32 years as a school psychologist,  and in my almost 3 decade private practice, no one died by suicide (on my watch) after one high school female, in my 2nd  of 25 years in California.
This death was so upsetting that I thought there must be a better way than waiting for so-called "Telltale signs" that-a suicide might happen without intervention or referral to outside sources.

That is when I developed the program of ending harm to self and others by coaching students in my charge,  and patients  who came into my central California private practice to take the two rules of safety and learn how to protect themselves and others using offensiveless defense. Please See the book, “End Suicide And Homicide- And The Harm In Between”.

-This made the process proactive,  rather than waiting until there was a death by suicide and THEN helping people cope, after the fact. The importance of making the two “rules”  a permanent commitment is also explained in “End Suicide And Homicide-And The Harm In Between”  and became my way of making a dark impulsive emotional day, not result in tragedy. For example, telling those in your circle of influence about down emotional days you’ve had, but they didn’t have to worry about you  because, “I have a rule against it (Dying by suicide). Adding also that it would be preferable for them to also take that rule.
